The MorphAir In-Duct Unit is a good choice for people who do not have severe reactions to allergens or asthma-inducers in the air.  This product, when installed into your furnace duct, continually cleans the air that moves past it.  Over time, the MorphAir In-Duct Unit will slowly reduce the amount of allergens, germs, and viruses in your home's air.  The 36 Watt version of this unit uses two 18 Watt UV-C bulbs and is ideal for larger homes than the 18 Watt version.  It is also preferable for those people that would like each cleaning of the air to be more efficient.

NanocleanTM is a non-toxic aqueous solution of photocatalyst for coating surfaces irradiated by UV-C light. When dry, NanocleanTM provides a permanent coating that interacts with the UV-C light to destroy odours and microbes (mold, bacteria, and viruses). The coating is beneficially applied to the interior walls of heating and cooling ductwork and air conditioning coils (which also makes them "self-cleaning"). The application/coverage rate is approximately 1ml/square foot. The coating must be dry to be effective, under UV-C irradiation.

Photocatalysis is a photoelectric process that liberates electrons from the irradiated photocatalyst surface which creates both reactive free radicals and positive "holes" at the photocatalyst surface that are effective in destroying both microbes and volatile organic compounds (odours) near the surface (and, therefore, not harmful to either humans or animals). Photocatalysis breaks down organic molecules into carbon dioxide and water. This is the opposite of photosynthesis, the process by which plants combine sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make organic compounds. In destructive "force", photocatalysis acts like a "lighting strike" on the "nano-scale". For example, devastating to both microbes and odour molecules.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) has become a new branch of chemical and medical science directly related to the presence and accumulation of airborne contaminants: volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and pathogenic and/or allergenic microbial species (e.g., molds, bacteria, and viruses). The deterioration of indoor air quality is a direct consequence of increased energy efficient ("conservation") measures that restrict fresh air exchange together with the increased use of synthetic building materials, furnishings, solvents and other cleaning materials that emit VOCs. Furthermore, limited air exchange in warm, humid, environments is ideal for mold, bacterial, and viral growth. Consequently, indoor air can be many times more polluted than outdoor air. Furthermore, "fresh" outdoor air, in industrialized countries, is contaminated by automotive exhaust and other industrial emissions, in addition to the "natural" loadings of odours, molds, bacteria, viruses, pollens, animal emissions, etc.

In-Duct Air Purification

The Morphic Envirotech In-Duct Units install in the cold air return duct of your home furnace and irradiate the return air with powerful ulraviolet (UV-C) light. UV-C has been used for decades in hospitals to disinfect equipment because it kills and/or deactivates bacteria, viruses, and mold. UV-C does not leave any residues or create any toxins to be released into the home enviroment. Since the UV-C light shines on the interior of your cold air duct, residents cannot be exposed to the light itself.

How does it work?

Your furnace circulates air throughout your home. On cool days the circulated air is heated. Cool air along with airborne dust particles, mold spores, bacteria and viruses are returned to the furnace through the cold air return duct. As the air flows past the UV-C light, it is irradiated. The UV-C light kills the biological contaminants. With each pass through the duct more contaminants are killed and the air in the home becomes cleaner. For those residents that suffer from allergies or asthma, the lowered levels of airborne contaminants allow their immune systems to recover and often results in reduced usage of inhalers and other medications.

Do the units remove all the airborne contaminents?

The In-Duct units will lower the levels of bacteria, viruses, mold spores, and VOCs, allowing the immune systems of sensitive people to recover. This reduces allergy and asthma symptoms. Since the home is not a closed system there will always be a certain level of airborne biological contaminents (eg. spores continually introduced from the outdoors through open windows, doors, and incoming pets and guests).
